Figments (Senior Thesis)

Mason Gross Gallery April 29th - May 10th

Figments is an augmented reality piece that explores the idea of our imagination hiding in plain sight. Everyone has had imaginary friends, but the world that lives in these posters are not just figments of your imagination. By using technology as an observational lens the imaginary becomes real and alive.

Figments consists of four posters that all represent different worlds and only reveal their true contents when paired with the figments app on the tablet. Using augmented reality technology, these minimalist posters come to life with vibrant animation.

This initiative to view the world with a more imaginative lens does not stop in the gallery. There are stickers that guests are welcome to take and place anywhere in the real world and share on social media where their figment character ended up, with the hashtag #figmentsmgsa.
